Fougère
Fougère, a French term meaning “fern-like,” is a fragrance family in perfumery known for its fresh, aromatic and slightly woody scent. This family of fragrances is built around a base of oakmoss, coumarin, and lavender, with additional notes of geranium, bergamot, and other herbal and floral notes. The fragrance family was created in 1882 by Houbigant, a Parisian perfume house, with the launch of the fragrance ‘Fougère Royale’, which became an instant success. This fragrance was a revolutionary departure from the traditional floral scents of the time and was based on a new accord that combined the freshness of lavender with the warmth of coumarin and the earthy, mossy scent of oakmoss. Today, this fragrance family has evolved to include a wide range of fragrances, from classic masculine scents to more contemporary unisex fragrances.
