Baking

Baking is a makeup technique that involves applying a thick layer of translucent powder to the face and leaving it to sit for several minutes before brushing it off. The purpose of baking is to create a long-lasting, crease-free, and flawless base for your makeup.

How to bake?

To bake, start by applying your foundation, concealer, and other cream-based products as you normally would. Once blended, using a damp makeup sponge, or  a dry powder brush, press a generous amount of translucent powder onto the areas of your face where you tend to get oily or crease, such as the under-eye area, forehead, nose, and chin. Let the powder sit for at least 5-10 minutes (some people leave it on for up to 30 minutes), allowing the heat from your skin to set the powder into a smooth, creaseless finish. A good way to utilize this waiting time is by using it to fill in your brows and do your eye makeup. After the powder has set, use a fluffy brush to gently dust off the excess powder. The result is a smooth and crease-free finish that helps your makeup last longer and stay in place throughout the day. Baking is especially useful for those with oily or combination skin types, as it helps to absorb excess oil and prevent makeup from sliding around or creasing.
It’s important to note that baking can be a little bit tricky, especially if you have dry or mature skin, as it can emphasize fine lines and wrinkles. To avoid this, be sure to use a lightweight, finely-milled powder and avoid applying too much pressure when pressing the powder onto your skin. Additionally, it’s important to use a hydrating setting spray after baking to lock in moisture and prevent your skin from looking too dry or cakey.
