Chisel
Chiseling is a makeup technique that involves contouring and highlighting to sculpt the face. It is a popular technique that can help enhance facial features and create a more defined look. The chiseling technique involves using a contour and a highlighting shade to create the illusion of depth and dimension on the face, allowing you to play up certain features. The goal is to create an illusion of shadows and highlights to make certain areas of the face appear “snatched” i.e. more sculpted, or more defined.
How to create a chisel?
To start the chiseling process, it’s important to choose the right shade of contour, look for one that is a 2-3 shades darker than your natural skin tone. This can be in the form of a powder or cream, depending on your preference. It’s easier to contour with a cream, as they are easier to blend. Use a contouring brush to apply the darker shade to the areas of the face that you want to define. This includes under the cheekbones, jawline, temples, and nose. Once you have applied the contour, it’s time to move on to the highlighting stage. This can include the tops of the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, the forehead, and the cupid’s bow. A highlighting brush or blender can be used to apply the lighter shade of makeup.
It’s important to blend the contouring and highlighting shades to create a seamless finish. Use a blending brush to gently blend until there are no harsh lines or edges.
